Memorial Day Weekend

Join KCBC cyclists for the annual Memorial Day Double Nickel Ride in Jamesport, Missouri.  Bring the family and stay for one park sign.JPGor two days, or sleep-in Monday for a long weekend of rest and relaxation.

Ride the 20-55 mile loops.  After the ride, join us in Jamesport for the epicurean delights of the Amish locals on Saturday evening for group dinner at the Dutch Pantry. The food is fantastic, the home made pies, ice cream, breads, you name it, it is like your grandma did the cooking.

This event is really about the options for non-riders and post ride options. Saturday and Sunday evening we have a bon fiBasket Ball Court.jpgre that includes roasting marshmallows.  As such, be sure to bring as much firewood as you can carry.

Saturday the Jamesport shops are open and have several antique stores with collections ranging from furniture to comic books. The Amish bakery consistently has been a hit with their cinnamon rolls, fresh baked bread and cookies. (Be sure to schedule any shopping time during Saturday as all these shops are closed on Sunday).

Sunday is the perfect day to enjoy all the options available at Crowder State Park. Sunday riders are fed at the Jamesport High School between 11 and 2. Chef Ron always makes excellent choices to feed his “crew”.  Last year we had grilled spicy shrimp, Prosciutto wrapped asparagus, mushrooms and zucchini.

What other fun things do we do?  Well, we bring our libations of choice, of course.  We bring our swim suits, because there is a great pond/lake to wash off the sweat from the biking.  We get to stay in these great bunk houses, and the mischief that goes on in there is something to laugh about for years to come.

The group brings breakfast items and we prepare our own delicious buffet style morning meal.  Former President, Cheryel Cross, loves to flip pancakes.  For the Sunday evening meal, the group prepares a spectacular repast.  Last year it was smoked turkey with all the fixings.  The year before, it was steak and chicken.  No one leaves Jamesport hungry.

Directions to Jamesport, MO

Jamesport is a less than two hour drive north of KC.

From the Kansas City metro area take I-35 North to the Winston exit (Exit 61). Take Hwy 69N to MO6. Hwy 69N will turn Left, you will continue going straight. Proceed East on MO6 to Route F into Jamesport. The ride will start from the High School which is on your Right.

Directions to Crowder State Park

Go North on MO6 to Jct. 146. There is a big white cross on the North East corner of the intersection. Take Jct. 146 North for approximately one mile to the park entrance.

Accommodations:

Join us at Crowder State Park with RV, cabin and tent camping Cabin.jpgservices.  We have reserved the Grand River Group Camp Area. All cabins are equipped with showers and rest rooms. There are six cabins that can accommodate 120 people. The Dining Hall boasts a full commercial kitchen available for our use. This includes walk in refrigerator, huge griddles, 24 burner gas stove, (maybeKitchen.jpg I am exaggerating a bit, but that’s close) and an ice machine that stores 200 pounds of ice.

The park offers many activities including tennis, basket ball, fishing, boating, kayaking, hiking trails, canoeing and a SingleBunk.jpgbeach for that evening stroll.  If you are not into camping other accommodation options include hotels in Trenton or Jamesport.

Support

This is almost a self-supported ride.

Make sure you have two water bottles and some munchies.  There are no stores and no SAG stops.  We do put out a water jug so that you can refill and not be without water for the remainder of the 55 mile loop.

Schedule:

Saturday:

10:00 AM Depart for as many loops as you desire, 20, 25, 30, and 55 miles. Plan your routes to loop back to Jamesport for lunch at one of their restaurants.

(Some of the participants go down on Friday night, and bike to the start on Sat. morning.)

5:00 PM Meet at Gingrich Dutch Pantry for an Amish Dinner that consists of barnyard fresh fried chicken; melt in your mouth pot roast, mashed potatoes with brown gravy, schnitzel beans, Dutch slaw, and pie. Seating is limited and you must pre-register for this event.

Sunday:

9:00 meet at school in Jamesport and ride any route you wish. Some ride from the Park.

Noon to 2 PM

Lunch at the school will be provided for riders as most of the restaurants are closed on Sunday.  (Make sure Ron has your cooler with your “drinks” in it, because one can get parched after riding).

Monday:

Ride again if you desire, most don’t as they had too much to eat and drink on Sunday evening.  The camp must be vacated by 3 p.m.

Most important, this is an Amish community, you will see a family on their way to town in their buggy, the people are so friendly and will provide a water refill if needed.

This is a terrific ride, terrific weekend, and terrific fun.
